Customers of ProvidusUnity Bank have expressed frustration over persistent downtime, failed transactions and glitches affecting the bank’s mobile banking services.

Several customers have taken to social media to complain about login failures, network errors, failed transfers and transactions in which their accounts were debited without the intended beneficiaries receiving the funds.

Key Highlights

  • Customers report mobile app login failures and network errors.
  • Some users say they were debited for failed transfers.
  • Complaints have surfaced over delayed reversals and missing transaction alerts.
  • Some customers have linked the disruptions to the bank’s post-merger system integration.
  • ProvidusUnity Bank has apologised to affected customers and said its technical teams are working to resolve reported issues.
  • Some frustrated customers say they are considering moving their accounts to other banks.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, customers shared their experiences while seeking assistance from the bank.

One customer, @Osayuwamen20585, said the bank had debited his account several times without crediting the intended beneficiary.

“I need urgent assistance with a serious issue. I have attempted to make transfers from my Providus account four separate times. Each time, my account was debited, but the beneficiary was not credited. This is extremely frustrating,” the customer wrote.

Another user, @Smatopie, also complained about repeated failed transactions and delays in reversing debited funds. The user said the account was debited after an unsuccessful transaction and alleged that a subsequent withdrawal attempt resulted in another debit.

Customers Blame Post-Merger Integration

Some customers have associated the reported service disruptions with the period following the merger and integration of Providus Bank and Unity Bank.

A customer identified as @unclechukz_ wrote that the network problems became more noticeable after Providus began operating as ProvidusUnity Bank.

“From the moment Providus Bank became ProvidusUnity Bank there’s no manner of network issue I have not experienced,” the user stated.

The complaints have affected both individuals and business owners who depend on digital banking platforms for timely payments and transfers.

Some customers have reported delays in salary payments, difficulties completing urgent transfers and problems accessing their accounts through the mobile application.

ProvidusUnity Bank Responds

ProvidusUnity Bank has responded to several customer complaints on social media, apologising for the difficulties and assuring users that its technical teams are working to resolve the reported issues.

The bank has also acknowledged instances of temporary downtime affecting its mobile application and, in previous cases, informed customers when services were restored.

However, the recurring complaints have raised concerns among some customers about the reliability of the bank’s digital banking services.

Some users have also indicated on social media that they are considering moving their accounts to other financial institutions once they regain full access to their funds.

Digital Banking Reliability Under Scrutiny

The complaints highlight the challenges banks can face during large-scale system integration, particularly when changes affect mobile applications, transaction processing and other digital banking channels.

For customers, consistent access to banking services is increasingly important as mobile applications, internet banking and electronic transfers become central to everyday financial transactions.

While ProvidusUnity Bank continues to respond to individual complaints and work on reported technical issues, the volume of customer feedback on social media shows that service reliability remains a major concern for some users. Customers with unresolved disputes can also escalate complaints through the Central Bank of Nigeria’s consumer protection channels.
