Leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has warned the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi against entering into an alliance with Rabiu Kwankwaso, warning that such a partnership could undermine Obi’s chances in the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement released by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, the cleric expressed concern over what he described as Obi’s increasing political desperation and alleged failure to carefully assess the intentions of those around him.
Ayodele claimed that the former Anambra State governor had aligned himself with individuals who may not share his long-term political objectives, adding that he was overlooking what he described as important guidance regarding his presidential ambitions.
According to the cleric, Kwankwaso’s political strategy is primarily driven by his personal aspirations, suggesting that the former governor may not be fully committed to supporting Obi’s quest for the presidency.
He further alleged that any coalition involving the two politicians could become a liability if not properly managed, warning that internal interests and competing ambitions could weaken opposition efforts ahead of the next general election.
“Kwankwaso is focused on his own political calculations and may not ultimately stand behind Obi’s ambition,” Ayodele claimed, predicting that any alliance lacking clear mutual commitment could face significant challenges.

Despite the criticism, the cleric emphasized that his remarks were not intended as an attack on Obi.
He described the presidential candidate as courageous, resilient, and determined, but argued that he still needs to develop a deeper understanding of the political complexities surrounding presidential contests in Nigeria.
Ayodele also suggested that the true intentions of political actors within emerging opposition coalitions would become clearer over time, cautioning that a breakdown of alliances at a crucial stage could have far-reaching consequences.
His comments come amid increasing speculation over possible opposition realignments and coalition discussions as political stakeholders begin positioning themselves ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election.
