The Rivers State Police Command has dissolved its tactical unit, replacing it with the Violent Crime Response Unit.
The spokesperson of the command, ASP Blessing Agabe in a statement on Wednesday, said that the development is in line with ongoing efforts to enhance operational efficiency, professionalism, and public confidence in policing.
The statement added that the action is in strict compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.
“Following this directive, all disbanded tactical teams have been consolidated into a single, specialized formation known as the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).

“The unit is mandated to respond swiftly and decisively to incidents of violent crime, while adhering to established rules of engagement and respect for fundamental human rights”, the statement explained.
Meanwhile the command has issued a strong warning against extortion, abuse of office, and all forms of unprofessional conduct. reminding the officers that any violation of the Nigeria Police Code of Conduct and professional ethics will attract strict disciplinary action.
The commissioner of police, however, reassured residents of the state of the command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
He further urged members of the public to cooperate with the police and report any misconduct or suspicious activities.
