The Adamawa State Police Command has launched a strategic engagement with critical stakeholders to prevent the recurrence of violent clashes between farmers and herders.
The peace-building forum, held in Yola, brought together a wide array of stakeholders, including religious and traditional leaders, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), and concerned civil society groups.
The dialogue centered on fostering mutual understanding and implementing proactive measures to sustain peace during the agricultural season.
Speaking on behalf of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Special Adviser on Community Peace and Security, Ahmed Lawal, lauded the police for convening the timely initiative.
He urged both farmers and herders to coexist peacefully, stressing the state government’s dedication to ensuring security and equitable access to resources.

Lawal revealed that the government would begin retrieving all cattle routes that have been encroached upon, allowing herders free movement while preventing damage to farmlands. He assured all parties that the administration remains committed to resolving land use conflicts fairly.
In his remarks, Commissioner of Police Morris Dankombo reiterated the command’s resolve to provide a secure environment for all residents.
He emphasized that preventing farmer-herder clashes requires collaboration among all sectors and the active participation of community leaders.
Stakeholders present welcomed the initiative and voiced their concerns and expectations. Farmers appealed for timely access to fertilizers to enhance food production, while herders called for the reopening and protection of grazing paths to reduce tensions and encroachment.
