The Rivers Police Command and GS Foundation have unveiled a state-of-the-art gender laboratory, aimed at revolutionizing the investigation and prosecution of gender-based violence related cases in the state.
The ultra-modern laboratory, situated within the Rivers State Police Command headquarters, represents a bold step towards technology-driven policing and victim-centered justice delivery.
According to a statement by the spokesperson of the command, ASP Blessing Agabe, the facility combines advanced forensic technology, confidential counseling spaces, digital evidence management systems, and coordinated legal support services to ensure that gender violence victims receive protection, dignity, and swift access to justice.
The statement quoted a representative of GS Foundation, Mr. Peter Heepen at the unveiling ceremony, as describing the initiative as a “transformative intervention aimed at strengthening institutional responses to domestic violence, abuse, exploitation, and other gender-related offences”
“The gender laboratory is not just a facility; it is a beacon of hope, protection, and justice for survivors.
“Through this collaboration we are building a safer society where victims are empowered to speak up and offenders are held accountable through professional and technology-based investigations,” he said.
The Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, applauded the initiative and reaffirmed the command’s unwavering commitment to protecting vulnerable persons and improving investigative standards through innovation and strategic partnerships.

He noted that the establishment of the gender laboratory is focused on professionalism, accountability, human rights protection, and improved service delivery.
Adepoju also expressed profound appreciation to the international partners and supporting organizations whose collaboration and technical support made the establishment of the facility possible, describing the initiative as a significant milestone in advancing community safety and justice reform in Rivers State.
