Former Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, has officially joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and clinched the party’s gubernatorial ticket for Gombe State.
Pantami emerged as the PDP candidate through a voice affirmation during the primary election held on Tuesday in Gombe.
Key Highlights:
Gregory Yenlong, chairman of the PDP Electoral Panel, declared him the winner as the sole aspirant.
Speaking after his emergence, Pantami stated that his decision to contest was driven by a desire to serve the people of Gombe State.
He pledged to govern with fairness and justice if elected in 2027.

Pantami will face off against Jamilu Gwamna, the gubernatorial candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Earlier, Pantami had criticized the APC primary process that produced Gwamna as a consensus candidate, alleging a lack of transparency, and had pulled out on the eve of the exercise.
The development has stirred debate within the PDP, with four gubernatorial aspirants, Abdulkadir Saleh, Khamisu Mailantarki, Usman Garry, and Mrs. Monica Kaltho, raising concerns over the legality of Pantami’s defection.
They argued that a candidate could not switch parties and contest after votes had been cast in another party’s primaries.
Despite the objections, PDP stakeholders on Tuesday, endorsed Pantami as the party’s candidate, positioning him as the flagbearer for Gombe State in the upcoming elections.
