Chelsea forward Cole Palmer has signed an improved contract with the club, extending his stay at Stamford Bridge until 2034.
Key Highlights
- Cole Palmer has signed an improved Chelsea deal running until 2034.
- The 24-year-old was previously contracted to the club until 2033.
- He has four goals and two assists in seven appearances this season.
- Xabi Alonso says Palmer is expected to be available against Bournemouth.
- Chelsea are 10th in the Premier League after five matches.
The England international, 24, was previously contracted to Chelsea until 2033 but has been rewarded with better terms following his impressive performances and growing influence within the team.
Palmer has emerged as one of Chelsea’s key attacking players and is increasingly regarded as a leader in the dressing room.
The new deal places him among the players with the longest contracts in the Premier League. Manchester City striker Erling Haaland and Chelsea teammates Joao Pedro and Geovany Quenda are also contracted until 2034.
Palmer joined Chelsea from Manchester City in 2023 in a £42.5 million transfer and signed his previous contract two years ago.
His renewal is part of Chelsea’s strategy of rewarding established and emerging players while maintaining the club’s wage structure.
Brazilian forward Joao Pedro signed a contract extension until 2034 in August, while Pedro Neto agreed to a new six-year deal last month.
Return To Form After Groin Problem
Palmer has scored four goals and provided two assists in seven appearances this season, marking a return to form after struggling with a persistent groin problem last term.
The forward previously admitted playing through the injury despite acknowledging that he probably should not have done so.
His fitness concerns also affected his availability for England, with the injury contributing to his omission from the country’s World Cup squad over the summer. He had earlier sought specialist advice on whether surgery was necessary.
Despite playing more minutes than any other Chelsea player this season, Palmer missed England’s recent international break.
England manager Thomas Tuchel had expressed concern over his repeated absences, saying he “misses too many opportunities”.

Alonso Backs Palmer’s England Commitment
However, Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed that Palmer is expected to be available for Saturday’s Premier League encounter against Bournemouth.
Alonso also dismissed concerns about the forward’s commitment to England, insisting that he remains eager to represent his country when fully fit.
“Absolutely. He’s committed, but he needs to be fully fit to play,” Alonso said.
He added that Palmer had trained during the past week and was feeling better, although the club did not want to rush his return.
Chelsea will hope the forward’s improved fitness helps strengthen their campaign as they seek to climb the Premier League table.
Alonso’s side are currently 10th after five matches and have conceded 12 goals.
