The headmaster of Nomadic Basic School in Igbojaye, Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State, Mr. Mathew Kolawole Owoade, has been rescued less than 48 hours after he was abducted by suspected kidnappers.
Owoade, a 60-year-old educator and farmer, was kidnapped on Saturday, July 12, 2026, along the Igbojaye–Budo Aare bush road while returning from his farm. He regained his freedom on Monday following an intensive rescue operation coordinated by the Oyo State Police Command.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the command swiftly mobilised a joint security team and launched a manhunt immediately after the incident was reported.
He explained that sustained pressure mounted by security operatives forced the kidnappers to abandon their captive, leading to Owoade’s safe recovery on Monday evening.
Following his rescue, the headmaster was taken to a medical facility for examination and treatment before being debriefed to aid ongoing investigations into the incident.

The police said efforts are underway to identify, apprehend and prosecute those responsible for the abduction.
Reacting to the successful operation, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Abimbola Olugbenga, praised the combined efforts of security personnel, local vigilantes and members of the community for their support throughout the rescue mission.
He reiterated the command’s determination to rid the state of kidnapping and other violent crimes, urging residents to continue partnering with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that can help prevent criminal activities.
