A reported case of assault at the Special Baby Care Unit (SBCU) of Central Hospital Warri has sparked widespread concern among healthcare workers and the general public following the circulation of disturbing accounts over the weekend.
According to eyewitness reports and materials shared on social media, a parent of a patient allegedly turned violent within the hospital premises, destroying property and attacking medical personnel before being subdued.
Sources, including patient caregivers and visitors present at the time of the incident, disclosed that a Senior Registrar in the Paediatrics Department, alongside a House Officer on duty, were physically assaulted by the aggrieved individual.
The incident has further heightened anxiety within the medical community, coming barely a month after another reported attack on a House Officer in the same facility by relatives of a female patient.
Healthcare professionals say the recurring attacks underscore growing risks faced by medical personnel who continue to work under intense pressure, long hours, and often challenging conditions.

Reacting to the development, concerned citizens and human rights groups have called for urgent intervention by relevant authorities, including the Nigeria Police Force, urging a thorough investigation and swift prosecution of offenders.
They also appealed to the Delta State Government to strengthen security measures across public health facilities to safeguard workers and patients alike.
Meanwhile, professional bodies such as the Nigerian Medical Association and the National Association of Resident Doctors have been urged to take decisive steps to protect their members and advocate for stricter enforcement of laws against violence in healthcare settings.
Observers warn that failure to address the trend could further demoralize already overstretched health workers and negatively impact the quality of healthcare delivery in the state.
As of press time, authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
