The Super Falcons of Nigeria produced a dominant second-half display to defeat Senegal’s Teranga Lionesses 3-0 in their second international friendly match at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Monday.

Key Highlights:

  • Nigeria women’s national football team defeated Senegal women’s national football team 3-0 in a friendly match in Ikenne.
  • Joy Omewa scored twice in the second half to give Nigeria control of the game.
  • Asisat Oshoala added the third goal after coming on as a substitute.
  • Rasheedat Ajibade provided the assist for Oshoala’s goal.
  • The win boosts confidence for coach Justine Madugu ahead of the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

After a closely contested first half ended goalless, Nigeria stepped up the tempo after the break, with forward Joy Omewa inspiring the victory with a brilliant brace before substitute Asisat Oshoala added a third goal to seal a comprehensive win.

The Super Falcons started brightly and almost took the lead in the opening minute through a set-piece delivered by captain Rasheedat Ajibade, but the opportunity went begging.

Nigeria maintained early pressure, with Omewa and Gift Monday creating problems for the Senegalese defence.

Despite controlling large spells of the game, the hosts struggled to convert their chances.

Omewa came closest in the 15th minute when she rounded the goalkeeper but saw her effort crash against the woodwork.

Several other opportunities also went unrewarded as Senegal held firm to keep the scoreline level at halftime.

Nigeria eventually found the breakthrough three minutes into the second half. Shukurat Oladipo delivered an inviting cross from the flank, and Omewa rose highest to head home in the 48th minute, giving the Super Falcons a deserved lead.

The forward doubled Nigeria’s advantage seven minutes later, showing strength and composure to break through the Senegalese backline before calmly slotting the ball past the goalkeeper for her second goal of the match.

The nine-time African champions continued to dominate proceedings and added a third goal in the 66th minute. Ajibade surged forward on a counterattack and provided a precise assist for Oshoala, who had replaced Omewa moments earlier, to finish clinically and put the result beyond doubt.

The victory capped an impressive outing for the Super Falcons, who combined attacking efficiency with defensive discipline to complete a successful double-header against Senegal.

The performance will provide encouragement for head coach Justine Madugu and his technical crew as the reigning African champions continue preparations for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
