Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck has triggered a fresh controversy after a dramatic confrontation with police officers at a Lagos club in the early hours of Saturday.
The rapper was reportedly approached by police officers following his performance at the BOHO club, but instead of leaving with them, he challenged their attempt to take him into custody.
In a video circulating on social media, one of the officers questioned Odumodublvck over his refusal to follow them, insisting that an invitation had previously been sent to him.
One of the police officers is seen in the video saying: “Invitation was sent to you, it’s okay. What I want to ask you now, are you resisting an arrest?”
Odumodublvck fired back, insisting that the matter has already been handled by his lawyers and questioned the police officers’ jurisdiction.
“You don’t have any jurisdiction, that’s what you want to do. Don’t tell me to wait,” he said.
The rapper further alleged that police officers have previously visited his residence and that he was subsequently advised to involve his lawyers.
According to him, his legal representatives have already visited the police station over the matter.
“My lawyers came to your office, I am not resisting arrest, it was attended to,” he told the police officers.
Odumodublvck also claimed that a court order prevented him from being taken away from the venue, while accusing the police officers of attempting to restrict his freedom to discuss the matter publicly.
“It is illegal to take me from here, my brother. You’re telling me not to tweet, not to speak,” he added.
The confrontation has since divided Nigerians on X, with some users praising the rapper for standing his ground, while others questioned his interpretation of the legal situation.
Reacting to the incident, @Daygenius claimed that the police were attempting to arrest the rapper despite the matter allegedly being before the court.
“At the club this morning, they tried to illegally arrest ODUMODUBLVCK after his electrifying performance at BOHO. He showed them a document that nullified the arrest. Shebi the matter dey court, and his lawyers are attending to it. Why are they trying to illegally pick him just”
However, @onyekaihesiaba dismissed the rapper’s position, writing:
“Bunch of Nollywood actors. The Nigeria Police will not risk making such a high-profile arrest in public without a warrant granted by the court. So whatever he claimed to have on his phone is nonsense. Besides, when last did you see a policeman with a full beard?!”
Meanwhile, @Blocboy_Nathan mocked the situation, alleging that the rapper appeared frightened by the development.
“See as him dey fear, person wey send police go pick another man dey fear this one na part one e don brush go collect warrant, because he knows it’s over for him… e no get mouth anything na fear make am rush go police office for Abuja, Odumodu pink”
Another user, @AhbdulGafar, questioned the description of the incident as an illegal arrest.
“What did you mean illegally arrest? Guy is there an illegal arrest after warrants and id has been shown?”
@Mular_26 also appeared to side with Odumodublvck, alleging that the incident could be linked to efforts to stop the rapper from speaking publicly.
