A viral social media post contrasting Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s reported monthly salary of ₦503,000 with a luxury Mercedes-Maybach valued at $207,000 has resurfaced on Facebook, renewing online discussions about public officials’ remuneration, official vehicles and the cost of governance in Nigeria.

The post, originally shared by financial commentator Kalu Aja in August 2026, has been recirculating in screenshot form, although the salary claim and the accompanying luxury-car comparison are not new.

Key Highlights

  • A screenshot comparing Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s reported ₦503,000 monthly salary with a $207,000 Maybach has resurfaced on Facebook.
  • Financial commentator Kalu Aja originally shared the comparison on X in August 2026.
  • Oborevwori reportedly stated that his monthly salary was ₦503,000, while a Permanent Secretary earned ₦900,000 and the Head of Service received ₦1 million.
  • The Maybach’s reported $207,000 valuation has not been independently established as the purchase price of the specific vehicle.
  • The discussion has renewed questions about governors’ statutory salaries, official benefits and the wider cost of maintaining state governments.
  • The resurfaced screenshot is older content rather than a newly announced salary or vehicle purchase.

Oborevwori’s ₦503,000 Salary Claim Resurfaces

The circulating screenshot combines a photograph of Governor Oborevwori with a statement about his reported monthly salary and a post by Kalu Aja highlighting the luxury vehicle.

The salary figure originated from remarks the governor reportedly made around August 20–21, 2026, when he discussed the remuneration of senior public officials in Delta State.

According to reports of the remarks, Oborevwori said he earned ₦503,000 monthly, while Permanent Secretaries received ₦900,000 and the Head of Service earned ₦1 million.

The figures attracted attention because of the contrast between the stated salary and the perceived cost of maintaining the lifestyle and official responsibilities associated with a state governor.

However, the salary figure should not automatically be interpreted as the governor’s total remuneration, including any applicable allowances, official benefits or expenses associated with running the office.

How Kalu Aja’s Maybach Post Started

Financial commentator Kalu Aja, whose X handle is @FinPlanKaluAja1, drew attention to the reported salary disclosure in a post published on August 21, 2026.

The post carried the caption, “Drives to work in a $207,000 Maybach,” alongside an image of the governor.

The comparison prompted online discussions about the relationship between public officials’ declared salaries and the vehicles associated with their offices.

The post also generated questions about whether the value attributed to the vehicle reflected a verified purchase price, its market valuation or a general estimate for a Mercedes-Maybach model.

The material supplied for this report does not independently establish the exact model, purchase price, ownership arrangement or funding source of the specific vehicle shown.

Consequently, the $207,000 figure should be treated as the valuation cited in the social media post rather than a confirmed expenditure by the Delta State Government.

Why the Old Oborevwori Salary Post Is Trending Again

The renewed circulation of the screenshot illustrates how older political content can regain attention when users search for related topics or when discussions about public spending return to the spotlight.

The combination of a specific salary figure, a luxury vehicle and a serving governor makes the post particularly suited to social media debates about public accountability.

However, renewed visibility does not mean the underlying statement was made recently.

The original comparison dates to August 2026, and its appearance in current Facebook searches should not be presented as evidence of a new salary announcement or a recent Maybach purchase.

The renewed attention instead reflects continuing public interest in the relationship between official remuneration, government expenditure and the lifestyle associated with political office.

What Is the Official Salary of a Nigerian Governor?

The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) is responsible for setting statutory remuneration for specified public officeholders in Nigeria, including state governors.

A governor’s basic salary is only one component of the financial arrangements associated with the office. Applicable allowances and official benefits may form part of the broader remuneration package, while government-funded operational expenses are separate from personal salary.

Expenses associated with running a governor’s office can include security, transportation, official travel, staff and Government House operations.

These costs should not be treated as the governor’s personal income unless there is evidence establishing that they were paid directly to the officeholder as remuneration.

The distinction is important when comparing a monthly salary with the market value of a luxury vehicle, particularly where the vehicle’s ownership and funding arrangements have not been established.

Maybach Valuation Raises Questions About Official Vehicles

Mercedes-Maybach vehicles are positioned in the luxury segment of the automotive market, with prices varying according to the model, year, specifications, taxes and import costs.

The $207,000 figure cited in Kalu Aja’s post has not been independently verified as the price paid for the particular vehicle shown in the image.

Nor does the screenshot, by itself, establish whether the vehicle was privately owned, assigned for official use, leased or acquired through a government procurement process.

Establishing those details would require supporting documentation, such as procurement records, asset declarations or an official statement identifying the vehicle and its funding source.

Without that evidence, the salary-versus-Maybach comparison remains a subject of public commentary rather than proof of a specific financial transaction or wrongdoing.

Cost of Governance Debate Continues in Nigeria

The resurfaced post has renewed a broader debate about the cost of governance in Nigeria, including expenditure on official transportation, travel, security and government facilities.

Critics of high public expenditure often argue that governments should provide clearer information about the cost and purpose of official benefits, particularly when citizens face economic pressures.

Others distinguish between a public official’s personal earnings and legitimate expenses incurred in carrying out official duties.

The debate therefore extends beyond the governor’s reported salary to questions about transparency, public procurement, budget oversight and how government resources are allocated.

For Delta State, verifiable budget documents and procurement records would provide a clearer basis for assessing the cost of official vehicles and other executive expenses.

Recycled Screenshot, Not a New Salary Announcement

The Facebook material comparing Oborevwori’s reported ₦503,000 monthly salary with a $207,000 Maybach traces back to an August 2026 social media discussion.

Although the salary figure was attributed to the governor’s own remarks, it should not be confused with his complete remuneration package or the total cost of maintaining the office.

Similarly, the vehicle’s stated value has not been established as the confirmed purchase price of the specific car shown.

The renewed circulation highlights continuing public interest in political accountability and the cost of governance, but the distinction between verified facts, market estimates and social media commentary remains essential.
