A political analyst, Sylvester Obasere, has issued a rebuttal to recent remarks by Efetobor Richard, describing the claims against former Delta State governorship candidate, Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru, as unfounded and lacking factual basis.

In a statement, Obasere criticized what he termed persistent attempts to discredit Ogboru, arguing that the allegations raised fail to meet reasonable standards of logic and accuracy.

He questioned the rationale behind condemning political associations in a democratic system, noting that Nigeria operates a multi-party framework where alliances and engagements across party lines are not unusual.

Obasere specifically defended Ogboru’s decision to extend congratulations to Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, following his electoral victory.

He described the gesture as an act of statesmanship, rather than evidence of political alignment, rejecting suggestions that it implied subordination or affiliation.

He further pointed out that the African Democratic Congress (ADC), with which Ogboru is associated, is one among several political platforms in the country.

According to him, other parties such as the Labour Party, Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and Accord Party remain viable alternatives for political participation.

The analyst also claimed that Ogboru played a leading role in mobilizing political coalitions in Delta State, which he said later evolved into the ADC.

He questioned the role of former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, during that period, alleging that the senator was more focused on national political alignment than local concerns.

Referencing events surrounding the 2020 Supreme Court judgment on the Delta State governorship election, Obasere alleged that Omo-Agege publicly aligned with then-Governor Ifeanyi Okowa despite dissatisfaction among Ogboru’s supporters.

He also recalled a prior commitment attributed to the senator regarding efforts to restore Ogboru’s mandate, which he said did not materialize.

Obasere argued that criticisms of Ogboru’s recent actions reflect inconsistency when compared with past political conduct by other actors. He maintained that gestures of political courtesy should not be selectively interpreted or weaponized.

While urging critics to focus on constructive engagement, Obasere emphasized the need for unity and respect in Delta State’s political space.

He expressed confidence in Ogboru’s political future, asserting that his experience and track record position him as a strong contender in the state’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.

He concluded by calling for an end to what he described as divisive rhetoric, encouraging stakeholders to prioritize collective progress and democratic values in the state.
