A group under the aegis of Plateau Initiative for Growth and Development has dismissed claims made by a governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Commander Yilchini Jan Bida (rtd), against Governor Caleb Mutfwang, describing them as misleading and lacking in factual basis.
Key Highlights:
The group was reacting to Bida’s recent media engagement in Jos, where he declared his intention to contest the 2027 Plateau State governorship election and vowed to unseat Gov. Mutfwang.
In a statement signed by its state Coordinator, Nengak David, the group accused Bida of misrepresenting the performance of the Mutfwang administration as well as previous governments, while portraying himself as the only solution to the state’s challenges.

It said his comments on security and infrastructure reflected, in its view, a poor appreciation of the complexities surrounding Plateau’s socio-political and security realities.
“Ordinarily, such claims would not deserve a response, but it has become necessary to set the record straight for the benefit of the peace-loving and patriotic people of Plateau State,” the statement said.
The group also questioned Bida’s public record, alleging that he had not demonstrated significant involvement in peace-building or humanitarian interventions in the state, either during or after his military service.
According to the statement, Bida had not been visibly present in communities affected by violent attacks to sympathise with victims or provide support during crises.
It further criticised his remarks on allegations of security personnel complicity in attacks on communities, accusing him of failing to show empathy toward victims.
The group also faulted his claim that he would create jobs and empower youths, arguing that there was no evidence of prior initiatives or programmes credited to him that had directly benefited young people in Plateau State.
“There is no known record of him using his influence, experience or connections to secure opportunities for Plateau youths,” the statement added.
It maintained that leadership should be judged by verifiable impact rather than political promises, insisting that Plateau State requires leaders with demonstrated commitment to public service and inclusiveness.
“For these reasons, we strongly maintain that Commander Yilchini Jan Bida cannot be trusted with the leadership of Plateau State,” the group said.
The group urged residents of the state to support leaders it described as compassionate and development-oriented, capable of addressing insecurity and fostering economic growth.
