The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has disowned a circulating notice claiming that a special redeployment exercise has been opened for corps members, warning prospective victims against fraudsters seeking to exploit the scheme’s processes.
The NYSC issued the disclaimer on Friday through its verified social media platform, branding the viral notice as “FAKE NEWS” and urging corps members and the public to disregard it.
The fraudulent message, titled “URGENT NOTICE: NYSC REDEPLOYMENT,” was purportedly addressed to parents and guardians and claimed that a special redeployment window had been introduced due to concerns over national security, health and the prevailing situation in the country.
It encouraged corps members with what it described as genuine reasons for redeployment to submit their applications quickly to ensure their safety, proper placement and timely completion of the mandatory national service.
The fake notice also provided two telephone numbers and instructed applicants to contact them for assistance, while claiming that applicants would be required to present valid supporting documents and comply with NYSC guidelines.
Reacting to the development, the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters categorically described the message as false and advised corps members to rely exclusively on the scheme’s authorised communication channels for information concerning deployment and redeployment.

The scheme did not disclose the identity of those behind the fake notice or say whether any arrests had been made.
The latest warning comes amid recurring attempts by fraudsters to exploit the NYSC redeployment process, often targeting corps members and their families with promises of securing favourable postings or transfers in exchange for money.
The NYSC, under Director-General Olakunle Nafiu, reiterated that deployment and redeployment applications are handled through the scheme’s official portal and designated offices.
It warned that it does not authorise private agents or individuals to process redeployment requests through personal telephone numbers.
The scheme urged corps members and members of the public to verify any purported NYSC directive through its official website and verified social media platforms before taking action or making payments.
It also advised members of the public to treat unsolicited messages requesting money or personal information in connection with redeployment as potential fraud.
