The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has issued a warning to employers across Nigeria, declaring that organisations that fail to provide accommodation and transportation for corps members risk being blacklisted from participating in the scheme.
Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, announced the new stance during an interactive session with corps members on a working visit to Kogi State, stressing that the welfare of corps members can no longer be overlooked.
According to Nafiu, employers who fail to meet the minimum welfare requirements for corps members posted to their organisations will be barred from receiving future NYSC deployments.
He explained that providing accommodation and transportation is a basic responsibility that helps ensure corps members remain safe, motivated and productive throughout their service year.
The NYSC boss also reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to improving the security and welfare of corps members nationwide.

He called on state governments, local councils and other stakeholders to continue supporting the scheme by creating a conducive environment for young graduates serving the country.
Addressing the corps members, Nafiu urged them to remain disciplined, dedicated and law-abiding while avoiding actions capable of bringing the scheme into disrepute.
He further encouraged them to embrace the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, saying it offers opportunities for self-reliance beyond the service year.
He also advised them to identify business opportunities within their host communities and cultivate a savings culture despite the country’s economic challenges.
Earlier, the NYSC Coordinator in Kogi State, Mrs. Tochi Chika Chris-Moneke, praised the director-general for visiting the state, describing the trip as a clear demonstration of his commitment to the welfare and security of corps members and NYSC staff.
She disclosed that the Kogi State secretariat of the corps is preparing to hold a corps employers’ workshop and a health initiative for rural dwellers programme as part of efforts to strengthen the scheme’s impact in the state.
