The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, has announced the death of one of its senior members, Mike Odiakose.
Odiakose died on Thursday, September 17, 2026, after an illness, according to a statement issued by the Secretary of the NUJ FCT Council, Jide Oyekunle.
The union described the deceased as a respected journalist who dedicated his career to ethical journalism, particularly reporting political events in Nigeria.
Odiakose worked with several Nigerian Observer Newspaper, including the Nigerian Observer, Nigerian Pilot and Daily Asset, where he contributed to the journalism profession.

The late journalist hailed from Umunede in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State and is survived by his wife and four children.
The NUJ FCT Council said his death is a painful loss to the journalism profession, coming shortly after the council lost its former chairman.
“His departure has left a void that will be deeply felt by his colleagues, friends and loved ones,” the council said.
The union extended its condolences to the Odiakose’s family, colleagues, friends and associates, while praying for strength for the family to cope with his death.
The council said it would release further details about his funeral arrangements when they become available.
