The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 2,527 personnel for the Enugu State Local Government Elections scheduled for Saturday, September 26, 2026, as security agencies intensify preparations for the polls.
The Commandant of the NSCDC Enugu State Command, Dr Elijah Willie, disclosed this to journalists on Thursday in Enugu, saying the deployment comprises uniformed and plain-clothes officers and personnel.

Willie said the command would strategically deploy seven vehicles for Area Commanders, four additional van trucks and other vehicles for operational support personnel involved in election monitoring. He added that the commandant’s vehicular team would also remain on duty.
According to him, the command had been preparing for the council elections and had held meetings with senior officers to ensure effective coordination.
“I have met the Corps management staff, Area Commanders, Divisional Corps Officers, heads of special squad units and heads of departments on the election for some time now,” Willie said.
He added that the officers had been briefed and oriented on their roles and responsibilities during the elections.
“We have developed an operational module for the election, having received that of the police.
“The command will extend the same operational module and its instructions down to officers and men in divisional areas and wards in order to ensure all officers and men work according to instruction.
“The command also directed officers and men to be firm in carrying out their election duties while being civil and ensuring due respect for human rights,” he said.
Security Agencies Raid Criminal Hotspots
Willie disclosed that the NSCDC, working with other security agencies, had intensified operations against criminal elements ahead of the elections.
He said security agencies had been raiding criminal hotspots and flashpoints across the state to help maintain peace and security before, during and after the polls.
The commandant urged residents to come out and exercise their franchise without fear or favour, saying voters should be free to support candidates of their choice.
“The NSCDC and other sister security agencies are assuring residents of a peaceful, violence-free and fair election as we are highly prepared to ensure a hitch-free and successful election.
“Miscreants are also warned to steer clear of the state and the election as there will be no room or space for them to operate.
“They should also be reminded that their activities are being tracked with statewide technology that will easily spot them out,” Willie said.
He further disclosed that the command had put additional security measures in place for the election, although he said some of the measures could not be disclosed publicly for security reasons.

The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) scheduled the statewide local government elections for Saturday, September 26, 2026.
The election will cover the 17 chairmanship positions and 260 ward councillorship positions across Enugu State.
