Nigeria opened their campaign at the 2026 African Men’s Volleyball Nations Championship in Tunisia with a convincing 3-0 victory over Chad on Wednesday, September 16.
The Zone 3 champions secured the win with set scores of 25-17, 25-17 and 25-16 to begin the championship on a positive note.
Nigeria dominated the opening set, defeating Chad 25-17 before producing another strong performance to claim the second set by the same scoreline.
The Nigerian side maintained control in the third set to complete a straight-set victory and record their first win of the competition.
The team is targeting the sole ticket for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games while also seeking qualification for the 2027 FIVB World Championship.

Speaking after the match, Nigeria men’s volleyball head coach, Ryan Masajedi, praised his players for following the game plan and executing their instructions against Chad.
The Japanese coach, however, warned the players against becoming carried away by the result, with Algeria next on Nigeria’s schedule.
“I am excited that the players played according to the instructions given to them; it shows our training programme worked out,” Masajedi said.
“They executed the game plan, and we had no issues beating Chad in our first match.
“We’ll shift focus to our next match against Algeria tomorrow (Thursday) and will not be carried away by the victory. We have to top our group to have a favourable pairing in the next round.”
Masajedi also commended Nigerians back home for their support and cooperation towards the team.
He urged the supporters to continue believing in the players as Nigeria pursue their targets at the championship.
