A violent mob in Sokunkpan village, Tsaragi, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, has lynched the Chief Imam of the community, Alhaji Abdullahi Audu, after accusing him of being responsible for the death of a young man identified as Ibrahim Gana.
According to reports, Gana, aged 25, had been ill and admitted to a hospital before passing away on November 4, 2025. Following his death, his brothers, Mohammed Shaba and Mahmud Gana, reportedly blamed the Chief Imam for causing his demise through alleged spiritual means. The two brothers then mobilized other residents to the cleric’s home, where he was attacked with dangerous weapons and killed.
The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the incident, describing it as a case of culpable homicide. Police spokesperson, Ejire Adetoun Adeyemi, in a statement on Thursday, said four suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing, while investigations are ongoing to apprehend others involved.
