The video, recorded at the September 2, 2026 premiere of A Mama Deola Wedding Story in Lagos, showed Mo Bimpe resting her arm on Jide Awobona’s shoulder while they appeared to look at her phone and chat.
Her husband, actor Lateef Adedimeji, was seated beside them.
The brief interaction sparked reactions online, with some social media users questioning the closeness between Mo Bimpe and Jide Awobona. Some commentators also suggested that Lateef appeared uncomfortable during the moment.
However, Mo Bimpe has dismissed the concerns and described the interaction as a normal conversation between friends.
In an Instagram Story on September 6, the actress criticised those who turned the short clip into a subject of public analysis.
She wrote: “A one minute clip of myself & Jide has somehow become a topic of public analysis. It’s fascinating how a normal conversation between friends has become suspicious to some of you.”
Mo Bimpe went on to defend the trust in her marriage, arguing that not every relationship is built around insecurity and constant monitoring.
“Some marriages are built on trust, friendship, respect, and confidence.”

She also appeared to respond directly to those who found the interaction unusual.
“The fact that so many of you found that interaction strange says more about the relationships you’re used to than it does about mine.”
The actress further stressed that she and Lateef have a healthy relationship and that her interaction with Jide does not pose a threat to their marriage.
“My husband is a secure man, a brief conversation with a family friend does not threaten our marriage, or require anyone’s concern.”
Mo Bimpe and Lateef Adedimeji have been married since December 2021 and have continued to publicly portray their relationship as one built on friendship and trust.
Jide Awobona is also described by Mo Bimpe as a family friend, providing context for the interaction that triggered the online debate.
Despite her explanation, the viral video has opened up another discussion among social media users about boundaries between married celebrities and their friends.
