The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has approved the elevation of 68 legal practitioners to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), the highest honour for advocates in the country’s legal profession.

The decision was taken at the committee’s 174th plenary session held on Thursday, under the chairmanship of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.
In a statement issued after the meeting, the LPPC said the rank is conferred on lawyers who have distinguished themselves either as courtroom advocates or as academics who have made significant contributions to legal scholarship.
The committee said all successful candidates must attend and successfully complete the mandatory pre-swearing-In Induction programme organised in line with the directive of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN) before they can formally receive the rank.
The date for the induction will be announced later.
The LPPC also warned the newly elevated lawyers against publishing or encouraging the publication of congratulatory advertisements, goodwill messages or notices relating to their nomination or conferment.
According to the committee, the warning is in line with Paragraph 25(1) of the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Guidelines and Rule 39(3) of the Rules of Professional Conduct, 2023.

It cautioned that any violation of the provisions could attract sanctions under the applicable statutory and ethical rules governing the legal profession.
The committee announced that the swearing-in ceremony for the 68 successful applicants will take place on Monday, October 12, 2026.
Among those elevated are Ibrahim Gamdeh Adamu, Jude Chukwuemeka Okafor, Godwill Achibong Umoh, Sunday Samuel Obende, Adebayo Olugbenga Adaralegbe, Jimson Ejovi Okodaso, Olalekan Lawrence Bade-John, Olaotan Thomas Olusegun, Philemeon Audu Daffi, Adenrele David Adegborioye and 58 other legal practitioners.
The LPPC said the appointments recognise outstanding professional excellence and contributions to the advancement of the legal profession in Nigeria.
