The Mkpat Enin Local Government Chairman, Emmanuel Inyang, has disbursed N34 million in bursary awards to 580 indigent students as part of efforts to promote access to higher education thereby reducing the financial burden on families.
Under the bursary programme, 100 postgraduate students received N100,000 each, while 480 undergraduate students were awarded N50,000 each to support their academic pursuits.
Speaking during the disbursement ceremony at the Mkpat Enin Local Government Council headquarters, Inyang said the initiative reflects his administration’s commitment to educational development.
He noted that the programme also aligns with the ARISE Agenda of the administration of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno.
According to the council boss, education remains a key priority because it is one of the most effective investments in the future of Mkpat Enin.
He explained that the bursary scheme is intended to ease the financial challenges faced by students and their families, while encouraging academic excellence among young people in the local government area.

Inyang further highlighted other education-focused initiatives undertaken by his administration, including the payment of educational grants, sponsorship of JAMB candidates, financial support for law school and medical students, ICT training programmes, and the distribution of educational materials to public schools.
Beneficiaries of the bursary expressed appreciation to the council chairman, describing the intervention as timely and impactful.
They said the financial support would assist them in meeting tuition costs, funding research, and covering other academic expenses.
