Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, Kogi State, has expelled six students for examination misconduct after an investigation found that they had rewritten an examination at the private residence of a lecturer.

The university’s Senate also approved the withdrawal of nine other students over poor academic performance and failure to register for two consecutive semesters.

The decisions were taken at the 167th regular meeting of the Senate held on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at the university auditorium.

The university’s Public Relations Officer, Uredo Omale, disclosed the resolutions in a statement issued on Monday.

According to Omale, the case involving the six students began on July 1 after university authorities received information that a lecturer was allegedly coordinating an examination rewrite at his residence.

Security personnel subsequently arrested Maji Okpanachi of the Department of Plant Science and Biotechnology, alongside some students, at his residence behind the Police Area Command Office, along Idah Road, Anyigba.

Items connected to the incident were also recovered and the matter was referred to the university’s examination misconduct committee for investigation.

Omale said the committee’s findings corroborated the initial security report and were supported by statements made by the lecturer and students involved, as well as other available evidence.

The investigation established that some of the students had rewritten the examination several days after the original test was conducted.

The students were also found to have paid N10,000 each to Okpanachi to retake BOT102, Introduction to Plant Science, at his residence.

Following consideration of the committee’s report, the Senate approved the expulsion of the six students.

The Senate also directed that Okpanachi be referred to the senior staff disciplinary committee for further disciplinary proceedings in line with the university’s regulations.

In a separate decision, nine students were withdrawn from the university over poor academic performance and failure to meet registration requirements for two consecutive semesters.

Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of Senate, Prof. Salisu Usman, said the decisions reflected the institution’s commitment to protecting the integrity of its academic system.

Usman said the university would not tolerate conduct capable of undermining the credibility of its examinations or academic processes.

He commended the relevant committees for conducting what he described as thorough investigations and said their work reinforced the institution’s commitment to accountability and academic discipline.

The vice-chancellor urged students to remain focused on their studies and comply with the university’s academic and examination regulations.

He also stressed the importance of maintaining good character, discipline and ethical conduct within the university community.

The affected students have been instructed to return all university property in their possession, including identity cards and other official items, to the appropriate authorities before leaving the institution.

The university management said the sanctions were necessary to preserve academic standards and ensure that its examination processes remain credible and transparent.
