The fifth day of the ongoing 3rd CGC Volleyball Premier League (First Phase) in Abuja delivered another round of exciting contests, with title contenders asserting their dominance in both the men’s and women’s categories.
Fans at the competition witnessed a series of commanding straight-set victories on Friday, while a handful of closely contested encounters highlighted the growing competitiveness of Nigeria’s premier volleyball league.
In the men’s category, the Nigeria Correctional Service maintained their impressive form with a convincing 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-22) victory over Ajase Ipo, controlling proceedings from start to finish.
The Nigeria Customs Service also continued their strong campaign, brushing aside Sunshine Spikers in straight sets, winning 25-16, 25-19, 25-19 to remain among the teams to beat.
UCEM Volleyball Club recorded another dominant outing, defeating Life Camp VC 3-0 with set scores of 25-19, 25-17 and 25-18.
One of the most entertaining matches of the day saw COAS Spikers recover from losing the opening set to overcome Defence Spikers 3-1. After narrowly dropping the first set 29-31, COAS responded brilliantly, taking the next three sets 25-22, 25-13 and 25-17 to secure a well-deserved victory.
The clash between Nigeria Police Force and Kano Pillars produced the day’s biggest thriller. Kano Pillars eventually emerged 3-1 winners after an intense battle that culminated in a dramatic fourth set.
Following victories in the first and third sets (25-18 and 25-14), Kano Pillars were pushed to the limit before edging the fourth set 35-33 after Nigeria Police Force had levelled the contest by winning the second set 25-23.
Meanwhile, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) completed a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Offa VC, claiming the sets 25-21, 25-18 and 25-22.
The women’s competition also produced several impressive performances.
Kada Emeralds bounced back from dropping the second set to defeat Olalomi Royal Angels 3-1. After winning the opening set 25-17 and losing the second 16-25, Kada Emeralds regained control to claim the remaining sets 25-18 and 25-16.
The encounter between CNS Spikers and NSCDC was another closely fought affair. Despite taking the opening set 25-23, CNS Spikers were unable to maintain their momentum as NSCDC fought back to win the next three sets 25-12, 26-24 and 25-22 for a 3-1 triumph.
VIP & Partners VC delivered one of the day’s most dominant displays, comfortably defeating Anambra Queens in straight sets 25-16, 25-15 and 25-17.

The Fire Service women were equally ruthless, overpowering Life Camp VC 3-0 with commanding set scores of 25-15, 25-16 and 25-13.
Another convincing performance came from COAS Spikers, who outclassed Excelsior VC 3-0, recording emphatic set victories of 25-14, 25-18 and 25-12.
With five days of action completed, the battle for playoff positions continues to intensify as teams seek crucial victories in the first phase of the 2026 CGC Volleyball Premier League.
The tournament has continued to showcase high-quality volleyball, thrilling rallies and fierce competition, promising even more excitement as the race for honours gathers momentum in Abuja.
