Nigeria Customs Service, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Spikers and Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Spikers produced commanding performances on Wednesday, as the third day of the first phase of the 2026 Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Volleyball Premier League lit up the Indoor Sports Hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

The competition, which runs from June 13 to 28, has brought together 26 of Nigeria’s top men’s and women’s volleyball clubs in the country’s premier domestic league.

Nigeria Customs Service underlined their title credentials with two impressive victories, opening with a straight-sets (3-0) win over Defence Spikers before overcoming a resilient NSCDC side 3-1 later in the day.

The Customs side defeated Defence Spikers 25-22, 25-13, 25-19 before edging NSCDC 25-17, 25-13, 20-25, 25-18 to maintain their unbeaten run.

Reacting to the victory over NSCDC, Nigeria Customs Service head coach, Suleiman Ajiegbe, described the result as significant, praising his players for maintaining the club’s high standards.

“It means a lot for us. NSCDC are not a small team in Nigerian volleyball; they have a rich history just like Nigeria Customs. We have a standard to maintain, and the girls showed that quality. The third set was an opportunity to give other players some game time, and I think it worked well,” Ajiegbe said.

COAS Spikers also enjoyed a flawless day, sweeping NSCDC 3-0 before overpowering Life Camp VC by the same scoreline, while CNS Spikers produced another dominant display with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Sunshine Spikers.

Elsewhere in the men’s category, Kano Pillars continued their impressive campaign with a 3-0 triumph over Offa Volleyball Club, while Nigeria Correctional Service defeated Life Camp VC 3-1.

Nigeria Police also secured an important 3-1 victory against Ajase Ipo Volleyball Club to improve their campaign.

Police head coach Taiwo Oladipupo expressed satisfaction with his team’s progress despite an earlier defeat in the competition.

“We are taking every match one after the other because it’s a league. We now have two wins and one loss, and I’m satisfied with the performance. The team we lost to is also a very good side, but we remain focused on our objective,” Oladipupo said.

In the women’s competition, CNS Spikers overwhelmed Benue Queens in straight sets, conceding only 34 points across the three sets.

NAF Rockets also defeated Excelsior VC 3-0, while VIP & Partners cruised past Olalomi Royal Angels in another straight-set encounter.

The most dramatic women’s fixture of the day saw Nigeria Fire Service battle from behind to defeat Anambra Queens 3-2 in a thrilling five-set contest after recovering from a two-set deficit.

With several title contenders maintaining unbeaten records, the race for honours is beginning to gather momentum as the first phase of the 2026 CGC Volleyball Premier League enters a decisive stage.
