Residents of Ekiugbo Community in Ughelli, headquarters of Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, were thrown into shock after a young woman was alleged to have buried her two-week-old baby alive.
According to sources within the community, suspicion arose when residents noticed the infant had not been seen for some time and repeatedly questioned the mother about the child’s whereabouts.
She reportedly told concerned residents that she had handed the baby over to a friend.
However, doubts over her explanation intensified after a resident claimed to have seen the woman heading towards an uncompleted building with the baby late at night.
The revelation prompted community members to intensify inquiries into the disappearance of the infant.
Sources said that under sustained questioning, the suspect allegedly confessed to burying the baby and subsequently, led residents to the uncompleted building where the infant was reportedly buried.
The gruesome discovery sparked outrage and grief among residents, who described the incident as disturbing and heartbreaking.
