A fresh wave of violence has hit Plateau State as gunmen attacked Duru-Kamang community in Foron District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, killing one resident and rustling more than 50 cattle.
The victim, identified as Samuel Gwom Tsok, 47, was reportedly asleep in his home when he heard suspicious movements behind his house around 11 p.m. and stepped out to investigate.
He was said to have been shot at close range by the attackers, who were allegedly in the process of stealing livestock in the area.
Unaware of the ongoing rustling operation, Tsok reportedly walked directly into the armed men before being killed instantly.
The attackers were also said to have made away with more than 50 cattle belonging to the deceased, worsening tensions in the already troubled community.
The incident has been confirmed by the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, who described the attack as another disturbing reminder of persistent insecurity in Barkin Ladi and other parts of Plateau State.
