Gunmen have abducted three students of the Federal University, Lafia, Nasarawa State, with security officers rescuing one of the victims during a search-and-rescue operation.
The incident occurred on Tuesday night at the Living Seed Lodge, a student hostel located in a bushy area on the outskirts of the university community in Lafia.
The Nasarawa State Police Command confirmed the attack in a statement issued on Wednesday, by its spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel.
According to the police, the command received a distress call at about 9:20 p.m. from the university’s chief security officer, reporting that unidentified armed men had invaded the lodge and abducted three students.
Following the report, the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, ordered the immediate deployment of tactical teams, patrol operatives and other security personnel to the area.

The police said officers launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation in the surrounding forest, leading to the successful rescue of one of the abducted students.
“The prompt response of the police led to the successful rescue of one of the abducted students,” the statement said.
It added that efforts have been intensified to secure the release of the remaining two students and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
The commissioner of police directed all operational and intelligence units of the command to sustain the rescue operation, until the remaining victims are freed unharmed.
He also assured residents that the police would pursue the perpetrators and ensure they were brought to justice.
The command urged the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist security agencies in the ongoing operation.
Residents were also advised to promptly report any suspicious movement or activities to the nearest police station.
