The Plateau Peace Advocates for Good Governance and Social Stability (PPAGGSS) has urged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State to resist divisive tendencies and preserve what it described as a rare phase of political unity in the state.

In a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Ibrahim Lengshak, the group cautioned that emerging cracks within the party could undermine recent gains made in stabilising the state’s political and social landscape.

The group noted that the state is currently experiencing an unusual level of political convergence cutting across party lines and interests, warning that such progress must not be sacrificed for personal ambition or external manipulation.

It specifically warned both longstanding APC members and new entrants against actions, utterances, or power-sharing agitations capable of fueling division within the party.

Also, the group called on party faithfusl to emulate what it described as the example set by key political figures in the state, including Governor Caleb Mutfwang, APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, and former Governor Simon Lalong, who it said have demonstrated a commitment to unity despite political differences.

“So far, these leaders have not disappointed us in their common zeal for the good of the state and the party, and it behoves those who claim to support them not to break ranks,” the statement read.

“The unity we are beginning to see on the Plateau is not accidental. It is the product of deliberate efforts by leaders who have chosen to rise above differences for the common good.”

The group described the alignment among the political leaders as a strategic foundation for peace and development, urging grassroots supporters and stakeholders to follow suit.

PPAGGSS also raised concerns over the activities of what it termed “divisive elements” allegedly attempting to exploit perceived differences within the APC for selfish interests.

“These are individuals who neither laboured for the present stability nor contributed to the building of consensus, yet they are eager to sow discord for personal gain,” the group said.

It warned that if such tendencies are not checked, they could drag the state back into a cycle of political fragmentation that has historically weakened governance and worsened insecurity.

The group further stressed that unity within the political class is critical to addressing the lingering security challenges affecting communities across Plateau State.

“Insecurity remains a shared concern that transcends political affiliations, making it imperative for stakeholders to close ranks rather than deepen divisions,” the statement added.

“Plateau cannot afford to return to an era where political differences weaken collective resolve. The threats we face today require unity, cooperation, and a shared commitment to peace.”

PPAGGSS therefore called on APC members to maintain a united front in both words and actions, insisting that sustaining the current atmosphere of cooperation is key to consolidating peace, strengthening governance, and driving development across the state.
