The Plateau Vanguard for Democracy (PVD) has commended Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang for what it described as his sustained efforts in attracting federal government attention to the reconstruction of the Akwanga-Jos highway.
The group also lauded President Bola Tinubu for approving and flagging off the reconstruction of the strategic road, saying the project would ease transportation and boost economic activities across the North Central region.
In a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Chris Ishaku, the group said Governor Mutfwang has demonstrated commitment and persistence by consistently engaging federal government officials on the need to rehabilitate the highway.
According to the statement, the governor’s repeated visits to Abuja and consultations with relevant authorities contributed to placing the project on the federal government’s priority list.
PVD described the Akwanga-Jos Highway as a critical economic and security corridor linking Plateau State with other parts of the country, noting that its reconstruction would benefit motorists, traders, commuters and communities along the route.
The group said the flag-off of the project underscored the gains of constructive collaboration between the federal government and state governments in addressing critical infrastructure needs.
While urging that the project should not be viewed solely through a political lens, PVD said Governor Mutfwang’s movement to the All Progressives Congress (APC) had strengthened his access to the federal government and enhanced advocacy for Plateau State’s developmental priorities.
“This is not about political celebration. It is about the welfare of the people. However, we must also acknowledge that the governor’s alignment with the ruling party has opened wider doors of engagement and made it easier for him to push Plateau’s case before the federal government,” Ishaku said.

The group appealed to residents of Plateau State and other road users to exercise patience during the construction period, expressing confidence that the long-term benefits would outweigh the temporary inconvenience.
It added that upon completion, the highway would reduce travel time, improve trade, enhance security operations, minimise road accidents and stimulate economic growth in Plateau, Nasarawa and neighbouring states.
PVD also urged contractors handling the project to ensure quality execution, while calling on host communities to cooperate with government agencies and construction workers.
The group reaffirmed its support for Governor Mutfwang, saying his commitment to infrastructure, peace and development reflected his resolve to deliver democratic dividends to the people of Plateau State.
