Governor Muhammadu Yahaya of Gombe state, on Saturday, swore in 23 commissioners, special advisers and permanent secretaries, charging them to immediately commence work and deliver on the administration’s development agenda as his government enters its final year in office.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony held at the Government House in Gombe, the governor said the new appointees were carefully selected based on competence, experience and diversity to drive government policies across the state’s 23 ministries.
He urged the commissioners to justify the confidence reposed in them by implementing government programmes efficiently and ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach the people.
“There is absolutely no time for learning or institutional orientation; you need to hit the ground running immediately,” Governor Yahaya said, noting that the administration has less than one year left to consolidate its achievements before the end of its tenure.
The governor commended the Gombe State House of Assembly for the swift screening and confirmation of the commissioner nominees, describing the relationship between the executive and legislature over the past seven years as productive and beneficial to the state.
He also praised permanent secretaries for sustaining government activities following the dissolution of the State Executive Council in April 2026, saying their commitment ensured uninterrupted governance and public service delivery during the transition period.
Addressing the newly sworn-in special advisers, Governor Yahaya said they were appointed based on their expertise and strategic abilities, urging them to provide innovative policy advice and bridge the gap between government programmes and public expectations.
The governor reminded all public officials that the state was entering an election season, stressing that their performance in office would serve as the administration’s strongest campaign asset.
According to him, the government would continue to campaign on its record of achievements rather than engage in political attacks against the opposition.

He maintained that his administration had transformed infrastructure, public services and socio-economic conditions across all 240 wards of the state over the past seven years.
Governor Yahaya warned the appointees against corruption, indiscipline and abuse of office, describing their appointments as a sacred public trust that must be exercised with integrity, transparency and accountability.
He also called on traditional rulers, community leaders, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to support the new officials in advancing the state’s development objectives.
The governor expressed confidence that the new officials would contribute meaningfully to his administration’s vision of leaving Gombe state more developed and prosperous before the end of his tenure.
