Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo was on Tuesday sworn in as the deputy governor of Kano State at a ceremony held at the Government House, Kano, drawing a large crowd of supporters and political leaders.
The oath of office was administered by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Dije Aboki, in the presence of Governor Abba Yusuf, who said the appointment was aimed at strengthening governance and fostering unity.
The event, held at the Ante Chamber of the Government House, was attended by key political figures, including former Governors Abdullahi Ganduje and Ibrahim Shekarau, as well as Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin.
The Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Ismail Falgore, and the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, were also present.
In his address, Gov..Yusuf said Garo’s emergence followed consultations with stakeholders and was in line with constitutional provisions after the resignation of the former deputy governor.
He described the development as necessary to ensure continuity, stability, and effective governance in the state.
“This appointment reflects our commitment to unity, inclusiveness, and the need to consolidate on the gains of this administration,” the governor said.
Gov. Yusuf charged the new deputy governor to remain loyal and work in harmony with the administration, stressing the importance of teamwork in delivering on government policies.
He also reiterated his administration’s focus on improving infrastructure, education, healthcare, and youth empowerment, while emphasising the need for stronger collaboration with the federal government to drive development.
In his acceptance speech, Garo thanked the governor for the confidence reposed in him and pledged full support to the administration.

“I accept this responsibility as a call to serve and will work closely with the governor to ensure that government policies translate into tangible benefits for the people,” he said.
He also appreciated the Kano State House of Assembly for confirming his nomination and acknowledged the support of party members, traditional rulers, and residents of the state.
Meanwhile, hundreds of supporters thronged the Government House and surrounding roads to celebrate the inauguration, chanting slogans and expressing optimism about the choice of the deputy governor and the current administration’s leadership style.
