A former Governor of Kano State, Kabiru Gaya, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), bringing an end to his long-standing membership in the ruling party.

Gaya made his decision known in a resignation letter addressed to his ward chairman in Gaya Arewa, within the Gaya Local Government Area of Kano State.

The development marks a significant shift in his political career after years of active involvement and leadership within the party.

The former lawmaker, who represented Kano South Senatorial District between 2015 and 2023, said his decision followed extensive consultations and careful reflection.

According to him, stepping away from the APC aligns with both his personal convictions and what he believes is in the best interest of his constituents.

In the letter, Gaya expressed appreciation to the party for the opportunities it afforded him throughout his political journey.

He acknowledged the support and trust he received during his tenure, particularly while serving in the Senate.

“I hereby formally tender my resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) effective April 5, 2026,” he stated, adding that it had been an honour to serve under the party’s platform.

While he did not disclose his next political move, his exit adds to the growing list of high-profile political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
