Tensions within the Taraba State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) continue to rise as fresh protests broke out in Jalingo, the state capital, on Sunday. Supporters of embattled Women Leader Lois Emmanuel took to the streets, reigniting the controversy that has plagued the party since the State Congress held last month.
The unrest within the PDP’s women wing shows no signs of stopping, as factions of the party remain deeply divided over Lois Emmanuel’s leadership. Many have opposed her appointment, claiming she was imposed by certain elements who, they allege, do not have the party’s best interests at heart.
Sunday’s protest, however, marked a significant show of support for Emmanuel, led by the PDP Women Leader of the Southern geopolitical zone, Ladi Danjuma. The protesters, carrying placards with bold messages, flooded the party’s state secretariat, demanding that the leadership stand firm by its decision to appoint Emmanuel, a former Commissioner of Information and Reorientation.

Danjuma and her group made it clear that they would not back down. “Our State Congress was successfully conducted. We call on our fellow women who are dissatisfied with the election to address their concerns through the appropriate channels, instead of engaging in disruptive protests,” Danjuma stated, vowing to resist any attempt to unseat Emmanuel.
The PDP leadership, through spokesperson Andeta’rang Iremea, acknowledged the growing division within the party’s women wing, assuring that steps are being taken to resolve the ongoing conflict.
