The Delta State Government has approved the conversion of the Model Technical College in Omadino, Warri South Local Government Area, into a campus of the Federal Polytechnic Orogun. The decision forms part of efforts to expand access to technical and tertiary education in the state.

The approval was conveyed in a circular dated August 18, 2026, from the Delta State Ministry of Technical Education and addressed to the principal of the Model Technical College, Omadino. The circular, signed by Ufuoma Idiegbe, Director of the Standards and Quality Assurance Department, on behalf of the Commissioner for Technical Education, directed full compliance with the new arrangement. Governor Sheriff Oborevwori granted the approval.

As a result, the principal along with all teaching and non-teaching staff of the Omadino college have been instructed to relocate to the Model Technical College in Oghareki and assume duties there for the 2026/2027 academic session.

School authorities must inform parents and guardians of both current and prospective students about the change. Those wishing their children or wards to continue technical education at the Oghareki campus are to contact the principal of the former Omadino college for the required documentation and admission processes.

The move is expected to enable the Federal Polytechnic Orogun to establish a presence in Omadino. Official statements from the Delta State Government confirmed the conversion of the facility into the Federal Polytechnic Orogun, Omadino Campus.

Background of the College

The Model Technical College, Omadino, is a relatively new facility. Academic activities began in September 2025 with the admission of Junior Technical One students. Governor Oborevwori formally commissioned it on February 2, 2026, in the presence of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, and other dignitaries.

The governor described the college as a flagship investment in technical and vocational education under his administration’s MORE Agenda, aimed at equipping young people with practical, industry-relevant skills to reduce youth unemployment and produce entrepreneurs rather than job seekers.

The institution features modern infrastructure, including 12 classrooms, nine fully equipped workshops and laboratories, two hostel blocks, staff quarters, a principal’s lodge, a dining hall, clinic, school hall, sports facilities, and supporting structures. It was one of several model technical colleges initiated under the previous administration and completed under Oborevwori.

Federal Polytechnic Orogun, located in Ughelli North Local Government Area, is a relatively young institution that has expanded its academic programmes and received accreditation for various National Diploma courses from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). Establishing a campus in Omadino is expected to bring tertiary technical education closer to communities in Warri South and surrounding areas.

The conversion reflects the state government’s broader push to strengthen technical and vocational pathways while facilitating the growth of federal tertiary institutions within Delta State. Parents, students, and staff affected by the relocation to Oghareki have been directed to follow official channels for a smooth transition ahead of the 2026/2027 session.
