A fire outbreak has gutted parts of the premises of the Gombe Media Corporation (GMC), destroying property and personal belongings.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday, affected the corporation’s old television studio, maintenance section, radio library, News Director’s office and hostel accommodation for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving with GMC Radio and Television.
Personnel of the state and federal fire services responded to the incident and worked to contain the fire, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the corporation’s premises. Gombe State has recorded a string of fire incidents in recent years, with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) repeatedly assessing damage from such outbreaks across the state.
The Director-General of GMC, Malam Ibrahim Isa, was at the scene alongside the Director-General of Press Affairs to the Gombe State Government, Ismaila Uba Misilli, members of staff, sympathisers and other members of the public.
No Life Lost, Officials Say
No life was lost in the incident. However, some individuals reportedly sustained minor injuries while attempting to salvage personal belongings and assist in the emergency response.
Speaking at the scene, Isa described the incident as unfortunate and expressed gratitude to God that no life was lost.
Some affected NYSC corps members, including Farida Tahir, Esther Daniel and Nasiru Joshua, said they lost valuable personal belongings, including laptops, sewing machines and important credentials.
A television cameraman and News Department artist with GMC, Irmiya Maiguwa, was among those who sustained minor injuries during efforts to respond to the incident and protect property.
An affected staff member appealed to the management and relevant authorities to strengthen fire prevention and safety measures within the corporation to prevent a recurrence.

The Councillor representing Jekadafari Ward, who was among sympathisers at the scene, expressed sympathy with the management and staff of GMC over the incident and called for improved fire safety measures to guard against future occurrences.
At the time of filing this report, the fire had been successfully brought under control and extinguished, while the affected sections of the corporation had been secured.
