The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, has urged women leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the territory to mobilise grassroots support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Mahmoud also charged the women to work for the success of all APC candidates contesting the elections.

She spoke when the FCT APC Woman Leader, Farida Suleiman, and members of her executive committee paid her a courtesy visit in her office.

The minister said her office is ready to collaborate with the party’s women leadership to ensure that women across the six area councils and the wider FCT were carried along, irrespective of their political affiliations.

She said the APC already has the capacity and commitment required to secure victory for Tinubu, but stressed the need for stronger grassroots mobilisation, empowerment and inclusive engagement.

Mahmoud pointed to ongoing infrastructural development and other interventions in the FCT under Tinubu’s administration, supported by FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

She, however, said the government must also remain focused on improving the living conditions of residents across the six area councils.

The minister further called for reconciliation within the APC, particularly with members who feel excluded or abandoned by the party.

She said there is a need to establish a conciliation mechanism capable of bringing aggrieved members back into the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to Mahmoud, women remain crucial to the APC’s electoral prospects, adding that their collaboration with male members would be necessary to advance Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda and secure victory for the party at all levels.

She urged APC women leaders at all levels to deploy their grassroots networks and political experience towards building a stronger and more united party.

Speaking during the visit, Suleiman pledged the commitment of APC women across the FCT to mobilising support for Tinubu and other party candidates in 2027.

She acknowledged the infrastructure projects and other interventions of the Tinubu administration in the FCT, saying the President deserved stronger electoral support from residents of the nation’s capital.

The APC woman leader, however, warned that electoral victory could not be taken for granted, stressing the need for sustained grassroots mobilisation, empowerment and engagement with residents.

“All is not well politically,” Suleiman said, urging APC leaders to move beyond assumptions and take their campaigns directly to communities across the territory.

She called for more town hall meetings, community engagements and greater empathy in communicating government policies to residents.

Suleiman pledged that FCT APC women would work under Mahmoud’s leadership, describing the minister as a mother, politician and leader with the capacity and integrity to lead the women to victory in 2027.

The event ended with the presentation of the Tinubu “Torchbearers” to Mahmoud on behalf of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and the APC National Women Leader.
