The world’s richest man on earth, Elon Musk, has refuted his tweet allegedly linking him with a move to acquire Manchester United FC.
Musk, whose tweet on Tuesday caused frenzy reactions on one of the world’s most utilised social media platforms, said ‘he was buying Manchester United’.
This singular tweet sent a shocker to Twitter users who were probably delighted to hear the news and asked further questions to ascertain if it was true.
In furtherance of Elon Musk’s tweet, records show that Twitter users retweeted it 160,000 times, commented 45,500 times and liked it 725,000 times.
However, to dazzle the growing tension over his sarcastic tweet, Musk who owns Tesla and Space X, affirmed he was only playing pranks.
“No, this is a long-running joke on Twitter. I’m not buying any sports teams,” he responded to a tweet clarifying if he was serious about his proposition.
The billionaire said if he could consider owning a club it would be Manchester United, a club grew to love while still a kid.
Musk added, “Although, if it were any team, it would be Man U. They were my fav team as a kid.”
Consequent to the response by Elon Musk clarifying his position regarding his intentions over Manchester United, several of the Red Devils supporters would have been left downcasted.
A good proportion of the fans are not happy with the performance of the club and would welcome a move by the billionaire to take over ownership from the Glazers family.
In 2021, there was a growing outrage against club owners after United dropped drastically in form and were unable to compete with top Premier League clubs for major trophies. with several appeals to Musk to buy over the club.

According to Daily Mail, Andy Goldstein, a broadcaster and Manchester United fan, appealed to Musk to retract his offer to buy Twitter, and instead buy the Old Trafford side earlier this year.
“Elon, Elon. Retract your offer. Buy Manchester united. Spend £2billion on the best players in the world. Win everything. And then boast about it on Twitter,” he said.
Another fan wrote: “Please buy Man Utd. All Man Utd fans would love it. Our club is currently being destroyed by the Glazer family. please. #GlazersOut.’
Another added: “You’re a top business man who fixes companies. Can you buy @ManUtd? The company needs fixing and you’re the man to do it. Also, free sponsorship for yourself too!!”
“Buy Manchester United, spend a few billion on the best players in the world, put tesla and spacex on the jerseys, therefore, associating the brand with success and victory and winning every trophy imaginable with club that has already won everything for 150 years,” another said.
Manchester United have started the new season on a wrong footing with the club presently wallowing at the bottom of the Premier League after enduring two defeats with that of Brentford most unfortunate.
