A family member of late Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo, Clinton Ekubo, has raised fresh allegations over the events surrounding the actor’s final days, accusing his stepmother of sidelining members of the Ekubo family in major decisions involving his personal life and burial arrangements.

Clinton’s comments followed claims by another relative that the family was not in support of some decisions made during the actor’s burial ceremony, including reports that guests were encouraged to wear white, while celebrating the life of the late actor, who reportedly died at the age of 40.

Key Highlights:

  • Alex Ekubo’s family member accused the actor’s stepmother of sidelining the Ekubo family.
  • Clinton Ekubo alleged the stepmother made major personal and burial decisions without family approval.
  • He claimed the family was not properly informed about Alex’s death and funeral arrangements.
  • The allegations have renewed controversy over the actor’s burial and family disagreements.
  • No public response has been made by Alex Ekubo’s stepmother to the claims.

In a Facebook post, Clinton alleged that Alexx’s stepmother arranged a marriage between the actor and someone close to her family without the knowledge or approval of the wider Ekubo family.

He wrote: “Honestly speaking, my brother David Ekubo and my sister Ify Ekubo were right in their write-up. His stepmother arranged her best friend’s daughter for Alex for a wife without Ekubo Okwareke family’s knowledge, and the marriage was done just like that.”

Clinton claimed the family was surprised when they heard about the marriage, adding that Alexx became more connected to his stepmother’s family than his own relatives.

“We were shocked when we heard that Alex was married. I personally asked what was going on. She channelled Alex Ekubo to her family, while there was nothing we did in Ekubo Okwareke family that he would attend or show interest,” he alleged.

The family member also claimed that Alexx’s death announcement came as a shock to them, stating that they were not properly informed about the circumstances before his burial.

“We also heard that Alex Ekubo was brought to the hospital dead. My uncle (my father) knew nothing about all this. His death announcement was a shock to me and he was buried just like that,” Clinton said.

He further questioned why decisions concerning the late actor were allegedly made without the involvement of the Ekubo family, while referencing Igbo cultural traditions.

The allegations have sparked renewed public interest in the circumstances surrounding Alexx Ekubo’s death and burial, with family members appearing divided over how events were handled.

As of the time of filing this report, the claims remain allegations, and there has been no public response from Alexx Ekubo’s stepmother addressing Clinton’s accusations.
