Police in Edo State have recovered a six-month-old baby allegedly stolen in the state and taken to Imo State, with the infant reunited with the family and suspects linked to the case taken into custody.
The recovery was disclosed by Assistant Superintendent of Police Eno Ikoedem, spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, during a media briefing on the command’s recent operations. According to the police, officers from the Gender and Family Unit recovered the baby and arrested suspects connected to the alleged incident. Edo Police Recover Six-Month-Old Baby
According to the Edo State Police Command, officers attached to the Gender and Family Unit recovered the six-month-old infant after the child was allegedly stolen and transported to Imo State.
The police said suspects connected to the case were arrested following intelligence-led operations.
The recovered baby has since been returned to the family, while investigators continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged theft and the involvement of those arrested.
Seven Suspected Cult Members Arrested in Otuo
The police briefing also highlighted an operation in Otuo, where officers of the Otuo Division arrested seven suspected cult members.
The command said the operation was part of efforts to curb cult-related activities and other criminal incidents in the area.
The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
Police Arrest Suspects Over Alleged Social Media Abuse
The Edo State Command also reported the arrest of suspects allegedly connected to an incident involving the stripping of a young girl in the Ekiadolor axis.
According to the police, material from the incident was subsequently circulated on social media.
The suspects are being held pending further investigation, with the command stating that anyone found culpable would face prosecution.
Joint Operation Targets Criminal Hideouts in Edo North
The command also disclosed details of a one-week joint clearance operation conducted in parts of Edo North.
The operation targeted suspected criminal hideouts located in forest areas.
Police said the affected communities remained relatively calm throughout the exercise and that no kidnapping incident was reported during the period covered by the operation.
Man Arrested Over Alleged Rape of 70-Year-Old Woman
In a separate case, police arrested a 37-year-old man over the alleged rape of a 70-year-old woman in Igueben.
The matter remains under investigation, according to the command. The police did not indicate that the allegation had been established in court, and the suspect remains entitled to due process.

Edo Police Urge Residents to Provide Information
The Commissioner of Police, CP Patrick Daaor, urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
He also advised parents and young people to stay away from cultism and other criminal associations.
The command further warned against using social media to humiliate, threaten, expose or sexually violate other people, stressing that sexual violence is a criminal offence.

The Edo State Police Command said it would continue intelligence-led operations aimed at tackling criminal activities across the state.
