The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has emerged unopposed as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Bende Federal Constituency seat of Abia State, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kalu secured the party’s ticket unopposed during the APC primary election held on Saturday in Abia State, further strengthening his bid for a third term in the House of Representatives.

Party members from the 13 wards that make up the constituency unanimously endorsed his candidacy during the exercise, describing him as a leader who has continued to deliver effective representation and impactful development projects to the area.
Stakeholders, ward executives and delegates at the primary election commended the deputy speaker for what they described as his inclusive leadership style, strong legislative contributions and commitment to grassroots development since assuming office.
Supporters at the event said Kalu’s performance in office and his ability to attract federal presence to the constituency played a major role in the overwhelming endorsement he received during the primary.

Speaking after the affirmation process, Kalu expressed appreciation to party faithful, traditional leaders, youth groups and women organisations for their continued trust and support.
He pledged to sustain quality representation, facilitate more democratic dividends for the people of Bende Federal Constituency and continue promoting policies aimed at improving the welfare, economic growth and living conditions of constituents.
The deputy speaker also assured residents that he would remain committed to advancing infrastructure, empowerment programmes and opportunities capable of improving the lives of the people across the constituency.
