The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has suffered another major setback following the resignation of former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Victor Ochei, from the party.

Ochei’s exit comes barely days after former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, also dumped the APC, deepening concerns over growing cracks within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a resignation letter addressed to the APC Chairman of Ward 4, Onicha-Olona, Ochei announced that his resignation takes immediate effect.

Key Highlights:

  • All Progressives Congress in Delta State suffered another setback after former Delta State House of Assembly Speaker Victor Ochei resigned from the party.
  • Ochei’s resignation came just days after former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege also left the APC, raising concerns about internal divisions ahead of the 2027 elections.
  • In his resignation letter addressed to the APC Ward 4 Chairman in Onicha-Olona, Ochei said his decision followed “careful reflection and personal consideration,” and that it takes immediate effect.
  • Ochei thanked the APC leadership and members for their support during his time in the party, while Omo-Agege had earlier stated he could no longer remain in a party where he could not advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State, and Nigeria.
  • The back-to-back exits of two major political figures have triggered speculation about possible political realignments and coalition talks that could reshape the political landscape in Delta State before the 2027 general elections.

The former Speaker explained that his decision followed “careful reflection and personal consideration,” while expressing gratitude to the party leadership and members for the support and cooperation he enjoyed during his time in the APC.

“Please accept this letter as my official notice of resignation from the party,” he stated in the letter dated May 2026.

Ochei also appreciated the APC for the opportunity to serve and associate with members of the party over the years.

His resignation adds to the mounting political uncertainty within the Delta APC following the recent departure of Omo-Agege, who cited political developments in the state that he said no longer aligned with his aspirations and the interests of his supporters.

The former Deputy Senate President had declared in his resignation statement that he could no longer remain in a party where he was unable to advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria.

“I will not remain a sitting duck in a party where I cannot advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria,” Omo-Agege had stated.

The back-to-back resignations of two influential political figures have sparked fresh speculation over possible political realignments and coalition talks ahead of the 2027 elections.

Political analysts believe the latest developments could significantly reshape the political landscape in Delta State, especially within the APC, as key stakeholders continue consultations across party lines.
