The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has warned Nigerians about the possible risks surrounding planned protests being promoted by some social media personalities.

Musa said the federal government is not against citizens exercising their constitutional right to peaceful protest but cautioned that demonstrations could be taken over by violent elements, creating unintended consequences.
“I have been seeing of recent some social media giants in Nigeria going around trying to raise protests.
“Nobody is stopping anyone from protesting, but we should always remember the unintended consequences because these protests might be hijacked and people might be killed or injured,” he said.

The defence minister also spoke on efforts by his ministry to improve public understanding of military operations, especially in conflict-affected areas including the North-East, North-West and North-Central regions.
He revealed that plans were underway to allow selected media professionals to accompany troops during operations, giving journalists firsthand experience of the challenges faced by the armed forces.
“We are making efforts to provide avenues for some of these media experts to be embedded with our troops when they are going on an operation, so that they can have a feel of what the troops go through and the challenges ahead,” Musa added.
