The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has ruled decisively in Nigeria’s favor following the disrupted 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Libya, awarding Nigeria a 3-0 victory and imposing a substantial fine on the Libyan Football Federation.
CAF awarded Nigeria a 3 points gain and 3 goals in the standings, granting them a 3-0 win over Libya. They also fined the Libyan Football Federation $50,000 which must be paid within 60 days.

This ruling moves Nigeria to 10 points from four matches, giving them a crucial edge in the qualification race. With a four-point lead over their closest rivals, Benin, Nigeria is now within reach of securing a place in the 2025 AFCON, hosted by Morocco. A draw in their next game against Benin could seal their spot in the tournament.
CAF’s ruling follows an investigation into Nigeria’s absence from the scheduled match, revealing significant logistical and hospitality issues in Libya that violated CAF’s disciplinary code. This decision not only penalizes Libya but also sets a precedent to ensure such disruptions are avoided in future tournaments.
