Ikem announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the PDP National Secretary at the party’s national secretariat, Wadata House, Abuja, and the party’s state secretary in Calabar.
In the letter, the former chairman said his decision followed deep reflection on the party’s internal affairs and his assessment that prevailing circumstances had made it increasingly difficult for him to discharge his responsibilities effectively.
He expressed concern that divergent positions and internal divisions were weakening the party’s cohesion and undermining its ability to pursue a united political course as Nigeria approaches another critical electoral season.
According to Ikem, the PDP is grappling with a crisis of direction and leadership coherence that could jeopardise the sacrifices, investments and aspirations of loyal members if left unresolved.
“Upon deep introspection, one I believe I must make,” Ikem said, explaining his decision to step down after five years of service to the party.
