Boko Haram has released a tribute video for one of its cameraman, Abu Salim al-Barnawi, who was killed during a failed attack on a military post in the North-East.
The three-minute video, reportedly narrated in Arabic, shows the deceased filming the group’s activities and participating in several operations before his death.
The footage is believed to have been released by the terrorist group as an obituary in his honour.
According to the acting Information Officer of ‘Operation Hadin Kai’, Captain Muhammed Goni, Abu Salim was killed by troops while taking part in an attempted assault on a military camp last week.
The military said the slain operative had previously participated in cross-border attacks into Cameroon before later becoming a member of Boko Haram’s media and propaganda unit, where he documented the group’s operations.
Captain Goni described the video as a tribute produced by the terrorists to commemorate the deceased media operative following his death during the failed raid.
The development comes weeks after troops of ‘Operation Hadin Kai’, announced the killing of another cameraman linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) during an operation in Cross Kauwa, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.

During that operation, troops recovered a Sony camcorder, ammunition, terrorist uniforms and other combat equipment.
Military authorities said intelligence obtained from the recovered materials suggested the involvement of foreign facilitators allegedly supporting the terrorist group.
The military further disclosed that the latest attack was aimed at overrunning the military position and looting cholera medical supplies under the cover of darkness.
However, the troops successfully repelled the assault, inflicting casualties on the attackers and preventing the theft of the medical items.
