Big Brother Naija star Bella Okagbue has reportedly taken a major legal step against her former lover, Olusegun “Sheggz” Olusegun, accusing him of domestic abuse, breaching his promise to marry her and allegedly obtaining financial benefits from her through misrepresentations.
The explosive allegations were contained in a letter from Bella’s lawyers to Sheggz, which surfaced online on Saturday.
In the letter, Bella’s legal team also demanded the repayment of monies they alleged she loaned to Sheggz, giving him seven days to settle the debt or face legal proceedings.
Her lawyers warned that failure to repay the alleged loans within the stipulated period would result in legal action to recover the money, alongside interest and other remedies available under the law.
But beyond the financial dispute, Bella’s lawyers raised allegations of an alleged broken promise to marry and domestic violence, potentially opening a new and more serious chapter in the former couple’s highly publicised relationship.
According to the letter, Bella alleged that Sheggz made promises to marry her on live television, social media platforms, in the presence of family members and mutual friends, as well as privately.
Her lawyers claimed that the promises began when the pair met during BBNaija in 2022 and allegedly continued throughout their relationship until 2026.
The legal team further claimed that Bella and Sheggz cohabited in the United Kingdom during their relationship, alleging that Bella invested significantly in the union.
However, Bella’s lawyers accused Sheggz of allegedly making “fraudulent misrepresentations” which they claimed were intended to induce her to provide financial benefits.
They cited the Supreme Court judgment in Ezeanah v. Atta (2004), arguing that the circumstances alleged by their client could give rise to a claim for breach of promise to marry.
The lawyers also claimed that Bella suffered stigma, reputational damage, emotional distress and psychological harm as a result of the alleged conduct and the collapse of the relationship.
The letter stated that Bella reserved the right to seek aggravated damages and other remedies available under Nigerian law.
The domestic abuse allegations are even more explosive.
According to the letter, Bella alleged that she was subjected to several incidents of physical, emotional and psychological abuse during the relationship.
Her lawyers alleged that Sheggz restrained her movement by locking her inside a bedroom and repeatedly slapped her.
They further alleged that he hit her on the head and face on several occasions.
Bella’s legal team described the alleged conduct as a serious violation of her rights and demanded that Sheggz immediately cease all unwanted or unwarranted contact with their client.

They specifically warned against unsolicited calls or messages that could reasonably be perceived as threatening or intimidating.
The lawyers also stated that Bella was prepared to petition the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency and institute civil proceedings over the alleged abuse, injuries and other damages.
The development is particularly striking because Bella and Sheggz became one of the most talked-about couples after meeting on BBNaija in 2022.
Their romance continued after the reality show and became a major part of their public image, with fans closely following their relationship and repeatedly speculating about when they would eventually get married.
Now, years after their BBNaija romance began, the relationship appears to have taken a dramatic turn, with the former lovers potentially heading for a legal showdown.
However, the allegations contained in the lawyers’ letter are claims made on behalf of Bella and have not been proven in court.
Sheggz has not, based on the material currently available, been found legally responsible for the alleged abuse or breach of promise to marry.
