Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, has said the state government has no evidence to establish claims that former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, is facing threats to his life.

Aniagwu made the clarification during an appearance on TVC’s Politics Tonight, where he also maintained that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was not involved in threatening political opponents or any resident of the state.

  • Omo-Agege had alleged that threats against him and his family were coming from the Delta State Government House in Asaba.
  • Aniagwu said allegations of threats should be backed by evidence that the appropriate authorities can investigate.
  • He cited security meetings with stakeholders and a security trust fund as part of the state’s efforts.
  • Omo-Agege’s camp continues to demand an impartial investigation into reported attacks on his supporters.

Aniagwu Says Government Has No Evidence of Threat

Omo-Agege had alleged that threats against him and members of his family were coming from the Delta State Government House in Asaba. He had also called on the governor to be held responsible should any harm come to him or his family.

The Delta State Government has previously rejected the allegation. In August, Aniagwu dismissed the claim, while Omo-Agege and his representatives subsequently called for an independent investigation into reported attacks involving his supporters.

Responding to the issue, Aniagwu said the Oborevwori administration remained committed to protecting the lives and property of all residents, regardless of their political affiliations.

He referred to Section 14(2)(b) of the 1999 Constitution, which states that the security and welfare of the people should be the primary purpose of government.

Government Cites Security Measures

According to the commissioner, the state government had engaged traditional rulers, local government chairmen, political leaders and religious leaders in security meetings aimed at strengthening the state’s security architecture.

He added that the government had also established a security trust fund to support efforts to improve security across Delta State.

Aniagwu further noted that Omo-Agege, as a former Deputy President of the Senate, had access to personal security arrangements in addition to the broader security structure available to residents.

“He moves freely in Delta State, and as a former Deputy President of the Senate, he still has security personnel around him,” Aniagwu said.

The commissioner argued that allegations of threats should be supported by evidence that can be examined and investigated by the appropriate authorities.

Focus on Governance Ahead of 2027

He said the government would rather concentrate on governance and its record of projects than engage in political exchanges as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.

Aniagwu also described security as a collective responsibility, saying the state government had continued to encourage cooperation among the various security agencies operating in Delta.

He dismissed concerns that political disagreements within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state could escalate into threats, noting that the party now comprises members from different political backgrounds.

Omo-Agege Camp Demands Impartial Investigation

However, Omo-Agege’s camp has continued to demand an impartial investigation into reported attacks involving his supporters. His representatives have alleged that supporters were attacked in Ughelli South and that a campaign venue in Uvwie was destroyed, calling on security agencies to investigate the incidents and prosecute anyone found responsible.

Aniagwu, meanwhile, maintained that the state government would remain focused on delivering projects and addressing the needs of residents, insisting that its performance should form the basis for assessing the administration.
