The Adamawa State government has finalized plans to release the list of over 5,000 newly recruited teachers, in a move aimed at closing critical gaps in the education sector.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri made this known during the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration with the theme: “Insecurity and Poverty: Bane of Decent Work.”
While congratulating workers across the state, the governor also announced plans to recruit additional personnel to strengthen the local government system.
He emphasized that the right to unionization remains a constitutional guarantee and urged employers to uphold and protect workers’ rights.

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to engaging labour unions proactively to ensure a productive workforce.
Highlighting achievements in worker welfare, Gov. Fintiri disclosed that over 7,000 workers have already been employed into the state’s core civil service, with more recruitment underway to further reinforce the system.
He described his administration as worker-friendly, pledging continued efforts to uphold the dignity of labour, ensure secure retirement, and protect pensions for retirees.
According to him, the government has also made significant investments in security and infrastructure to improve the state’s economic outlook and attract investors.
Speaking at the event, the Adamawa State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Emmanuel Fashe, said the 2026 theme reflects current realities, describing insecurity and poverty as major threats to decent work.
While acknowledging the government’s efforts, Fashe called for a wage review in line with prevailing economic conditions.
He also demanded the settlement of outstanding liabilities, implementation of promotions for local government workers, and an upward review of pension contributions as recommended by the Salaries and Wages Commission.
Other stakeholders, including representatives of the Federal Ministry of Labour and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), commended workers for their contributions to national development.
The event featured a match-past parade, with awards presented to outstanding participants.
